Watercolors

I spent several weeks studying but will now give up. I don't like the technique. It is fast -- and I have always imagined the pleasure of painting to lie in slow, meditative, painstaking labor; it lacks detail (details just cannot be done in watercolor); it is impressionist -- i.e. its objective is "impression" or "suggestion", letting the viewer mind fill in the detail which the image only suggests through a kind of sleight of hand, while what interests me is precisely the detail; and it is wasteful -- it takes no time at all to cover a sheet of paper and no effort at all to go through a whole album in an afternoon. Give me oil.
